Healing Benefits of Wearing Copper and How to Care for Copper Jewelry

Healing Benefits Copper

Copper is an essential mineral for humans, and wearing copper jewelry has been associated with increased energy, pain relief, blood flow support and more. Copper also activates and enhances the vibrations of your crystals, if you’re wearing one of my spiral crystal pendants.

Why does Copper Turn Skin Green?

When you wear your first piece of copper jewelry, you might be surprised to notice your skin turning a bit green, where the copper bracelet, chain, etc is in contact with your skin.

This is totally normal.

Copper reacts naturally with the salt content on our skin, especially when we sweat. Copper also reacts more quickly to acidic environments. This is a blessing in disguise because your pH balance is important for overall health. Take this as a sign to double check your diet, stress, etc. if you notice that your skin turns green almost immediately.

Caring for Your Copper Jewelry

Copper jewelry is beautiful, powerful, and wonderfully alive—but it does need a little love to keep it looking its best. Whether you're wearing a spiral crystal pendant or a classic copper cuff, here are three easy ways to care for it:

OPTION 1: Let it patina naturally
Love the vintage look? You're not alone! Letting your copper jewelry age naturally gives it a unique, earthy finish that many people adore. No extra effort required.

OPTION 2: Quick daily wipe-down

Daily cleaning doesn’t mean scrubbing or using products every day. Unless your copper piece is already very tarnished, try just a polishing cloth or microfiber cloth and giving the pendant a gentle, but thorough buffing. Once it's shiny again, just make sure to wipe it down with a cloth after wearing to remove any skin oils and help maintain the shine. That’s it! Think of it like brushing your teeth: a quick daily habit that keeps things fresh and shiny.

OPTION 3: Occasional deep clean to restore shine
When you notice more tarnish or dullness, give your piece a deeper clean. There are lots of easy DIY copper cleaning methods using lemon juice, vinegar, or baking soda. For your pendants, be a little gentler—especially if they have crystals. Start with a soft polishing cloth to buff the shine back.

Chains are both quicker to tarnish and easier to clean. Just follow copper cleaning instructions online or grab a copper polishing cloth from Amazon. For just a few bucks, you can get a cloth treated specifically for copper. Once it's shiny again, just remember to wipe it down after wearing. Skin oils/acidity are most of what causes the tarnish, and how quickly it tarnishes will differ for different people. Wiping it down is the easiest and most effective way to slow that tarnishing process.
