Make Easy Breezy Sun Tea on the Road or at Home
Favorite Saturday Activity?
Going to the Farmers Market.
Those of you living in an urban environment know what I’m talking about.
Our home base is Brooklyn, NY and we love our local Brooklyn farmer’s market.
It’s our little slice of the country when we’re taking some time at home base before heading back out to live on the road for the next year.
We will walk and drive extra miles and spend extra money to get the fresh quality and joyful experience of shopping at a farmer’s market.
I buy fresh herbs at the market to make sage bundles and love adding any loose leaves to my sun tea.
Need a smudge bundle to cleanse your space? You can find lots of options in our shop.
Making sun tea is a magic trick.
The process is simple, and the result can be magical.
There are no rules to follow when it comes to flavors or what teas or herbs to put together. It’s up to you. You can experiment with flavor and get as wacky as you want.
What do you have a taste for? Do you need a particular herb or herbs to combat some distress in your body or to help you sleep at night or to increase your appetite? Do you want the antioxidants and caffeine in black tea?
If you are a tea lover like me, you probably always have a decent variety of choices on hand.
If not, not a problem. You can still mix and match even if you have one type of tea and some dry herbs.
Even if I buy herbs for making sage smudge bundles or cooking, I love adding a few fallen leaves from whatever herbs I’ve scored. This can give your tea an interesting and more complex flavor.
By the way, add fresh OR dried herbs, makes no difference for your tea.
FOUR QUICK AND EASY STEPS TO
MAKING SUN TEA
STEP 1. Start with a large jar. Mason or Ball jars work well. For life on the road with a small fridge, use a jar with no handles to save precious space.
STEP 2. Place your loose tea and herbs into the filter. A stainless-steel cone shaped, or cylinder-shaped filter works best. Get creative and mix any combination of dry or fresh herbs with loose or bagged tea.
If you like adding essential oils to your tea for flavor and health benefits, the glass and stainless-steel combination here is perfect for that. Without worrying about essential oils + plastic, you can safely add a couple drops of Young Living Vitality™ oils for added health benefits.
STEP 3. Add enough water to cover all the tea. Make sure all the dry ingredients in the filter are covered with water. You want to get the fullest flavor you can.
STEP 4. Set jar in the sun or the fridge for 2-10 hours. The longer the tea steeps, the darker the color and stronger the flavor. There’s no need to remove any of the loose tea or teabags.
One difference between sun tea and brewed tea is, leave the tea bag too long in a cup of hot brewed tea and it becomes bitter. Not the case with sun tea. Cold or room temperature water prevents the bitterness.
