Ruby

An Introduction to Ruby

Ruby inherited its’ name from the Latin word ruber, meaning red. It’s famous deep red color stems from the mineral chromium. Traces of titanium oxide cause light diffusion within this gemstone, in which helps shape it into a six pointed star.

For centuries, this July birthstone has been known as one of the most beautiful and valuable gemstones on the planet, at times valued even more highly than Diamonds. In fact, this precious gemstone is considered to be one of the top four prestigious gemstones alongside Diamonds, Sapphires, and Emeralds.

It’s no surprise that Rubies were popular amongst royalty, with their perceived beauty enhanced by their rarity. Rubies that were a deeper shade of red were considered an especially prized possession by royaly. Rubies are mentioned several times in Biblical texts, using it as a comparison for the value of knowledge, wisdom, and purity. According to a Chinese legend, it is rumored that Emperor Kublai Khan offered an entire city in exchange for a single Ruby gemstone!

In some ancient folklores, Rubies were used to predict the future. A dream of Rubies was believed to foretell success and increasing abundance. In modern times, these beautiful gems are used for empowerment and confidence, to embrace your uniqueness, and to live up to your full potential.
